What can't we do without everyday at the studio? Here's our short version of a set tray:
- tweezers, at least 6 inches long--with either straight or bent-nose tips
- small scissors
- small spatulas for lifting or moving food
- brushes (as needed for sauces, water, oil)
- some kind of sharp pick...a bamboo skewer, x-acto blade, surgical scalpel, etc.
- small spray bottle (usually for water)
- small dropper bottle (with a needle-nose or very tiny tip--again, usually for water)
- small, short plastic cups (for sauces, to hold garnishes, etc.)
- small paper plates for extra pieces of food for the plate (if needed)
- small spritzer filled with glass cleaner or rubbing alcohol (to clean edges of plate or other props)
- cotton swabs (the ones with pointy tips from the cosmetic area are our favorites)
- torn paper towels to wipe your hands, mop up spills, etc.
If possible, try to have a cart next to the set to place your tools, extra food, sauces, or whatever you need. Then everything is at your fingertips and can be slid out of the way quickly if necessary.
