Need a little behind-the-scenes lift to food, a plate, or any other prop under camera? Wedging a piece of foam core, a folded card, or sticky clumps of puddy under the problem usually works but is not always stable (hate to see something tip over just as you're about to shoot?) Two favorite tricks are using those soft sponge wedges used for make-up application (ask a make-up artist for a handful or buy them at a beauty supply shop) or buy a container of Wobble Wedges. Wobble Wedges are technically "tapered installation shims", clear or black plastic pieces used to steady wobbly furniture. But these 1-1/2 inch wedges are just the thing to add a bit of tilt to a steak, the back of a plate, or background props that need to offer their best face to camera.
